- What you need to get going.
-
- An Archimedes, A5000 or A3000, Kam All Mode and suitable radio etc.
-
-
- MAKE A BACKUP >>>> NOW <<<<
-
- Due to a very unreasonable attitude on the part
- of my bank manager i have been unable to obtain
- an A5000 for testing !!!
-
- -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
-
- Wiring the TNC to Archimedes lead. THIS may or MAY NOT APPLY TO ALL MODELS !
-
- Some of the older Archimedes badged machines had real problems with the
- serial port then Acorn introduced the field change order mentioned below to
- correct this problem. If this change has not been carried out and you have
- problems then it may pay you to visit your dealer.
-
- If the serial chip field order has been carried out on the
- A300 series - the Acorn reference is FCO-2003, (replacement of C65SC51
- serial chip) - then the connections below should work.
-
- ARC 9-WAY D CONNECTOR TNC 25-WAY D CONNECTOR TNC 9-WAY CONN.
-
- No connection 1 Cable screen (optional) No connection
- 3 TXD 2 TX data 3 TX data
- 2 RXD 3 RX data 2 RX data

- } { 20 DTR
- 8 CTS 5 CTS 8 CTS
- 5 Signal gnd 7 Signal gnd 5 Signal gnd
- 1 DCD}
- 4 DTR} All linked together No connection No connection
- 6 DSR}
- 9 Ring indicator # 8 Connect status (optional) ** No connection
-
- * Some TNCs like the PK use pin 4 (RTS) for the handshake input, whereas
- others like the BSX2 use pin 20 (DTR) instead. So, if you make up a cable
- with RTS from the Micro connected to both 4 and 20 on the TNC, then it
- should be suitable for any TNC you are likely to use.
-
- # This connection is not actually required all programs, but you may wish
- to use it to preserve compatibility with all software. It is used by !Term93.
-
- ** On any TNC where the "Connect status" is not reflected by a pin on its rs
- port it should be noted that some facilities in the program will not work
- fully, the main effect is that commands to the tnc cannot be sent while
- connected.

- DESKTOP (Icon bar) MENU INSTRUCTIONS.
-
- Info
-
- Click on here for the usual info box.
-
- Quit
-
- Click on here to remove !YatFax from the icon bar.
-
- Run
-
- To run !YatFax click on the icon-bar icon with 'select' i.e. the left hand
- mouse button (assuming its tail is pointing away you !) or on Run.
-
- -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- This program is single tasking only although it does install on the icon bar
- and leaves all other applications in limbo awaiting your return to the
- desktop.
-
- The computer MUST have seen the !Pics application/picture store.
-
- -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- To run !YatFax simply double click on its icon in the directory to install
- it on the icon bar, then select from the icon bar menu as described above.
-
- The program operates in a mode 0 screen and the first selection is made from
- a menu by pressing 'T' to go to the terminal mode or 'F' to go to fac
- receive. The terminal section is very simple and does not have any save
- facilities etc.
-
- Other options are :
- 'Q' return to the desktop saving the new picture number if any pictures have
- been saved. Charts are saved as "P1", "P2" etc.
- 'L' return to the desktop not saving the picture number.
- 'C' go to fax receive but do nothing until the designated time, this is
- probably of little use but i have left it in for now.
-
- On selecting fax receive a further menu appears giving a choice of fax
- receive speeds and the best advice i can give here is to try and experiment
- with the various settings. Remember what i said about making a backup first.
-
- -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- Comment.
- The Kam All Mode does not use any grey shades, the icoming signal is
- sampled and a decision made as to whether the pixel is to be black or white
- so it is of little use for decent reception of 'real' pictures.
-
- Remember that to receive fax from your H.F. receiver that the audio MUST be
- input to the kams V.H.F. port and NOT to the H.F. port, a circuit diagram is
- included inside !YatFax.
-
- You may wish to edit the file !YatFax.defaults as MAXUSERS is set for fax
- receive and reset on exit, alter the exit value ONLY.
-
- -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- Before commencing a receive session one good idea is to copy the !Pics
- application into a large as possible ram disc and then double click on it to
- let !YatFax know its new picture store address.
-
- -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- During fax receive a number of options are available as follows.
-
- (f = a function key)
-
- f1 Return tnc to packet and go to first menu.
- f2 Not used.
- f3 invert the current screen(s) and invert receive.
- f4 Toggle the auto-save function.
- f5 Invert receive from now.
- f6 Save current screen(s). Used if the end of a picture comes part way
- down a screen.
- f7 Clear the screen(s) and restart at top left.
- f8 Save the default settings. (Used at next run time).
- f9 A crude edge detect attempt.
- f10 This moves the entire picture from time of pressing f10 as follows.
- Press f10
- Move the pointer to the edge of the chart.
- Click with menu.
- (Do not delay this operation.)
- f11 Set foreground colour (use f8 to make permanent).
- f12 Set background colour (use f8 to make permanent).
-
- < or > Skew the picture left or right.
-
- 1 or 2 ON NUMERIC KEYBOARD ONLY. Press 1 or 2 to view the left or right
- part of the received chart on double screen modes only.
-
- + or - ON NUMERIC KEYBOARD ONLY. Press the + or - to increase the number of
- picture lines overscanned (saved with other defaults ).
